AHOSKIE, NC – Gertrude Dempsey “Pinchie” Davis, age 86, of Hwy 561 East, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Davis was born on August 21, 1936 to Vann and Gracie Parker Dempsey in Hertford County, North Carolina. She was one of eight children. She was a devoted wife and mother. She always made sure the family was taken care of. “Pinchie”, as she was so affectionately known to many, enjoyed working in her yard. She was a dedicated member of Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church for many years serving in many capacities, such as the ladies auxiliary, being an usher, and working with the home missions. “Pinchie” was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Perry Davis, Sr., sisters, Inez Dempsey Overton, and Trolie Dempsey Doughtie, and brothers, Vann Dempsey, Jr., Stanley Dempsey, Bobby Dempsey, and twin Graham Dempsey.
Left to cherish Gertrude’s memory is her son, Bobby Davis Jr. and wife Melanie of Littleton, NC; her daughter, Tommye Anne Davis Kidd of Apex, NC; a sister, Rachel Morris and husband Leroy of Aulander; three grandsons, Landen Grey Kidd, Ryan Gray, and Zachary Gray; a great granddaughter, Everlyn Gray; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Dempsey of Scotland Neck, NC, and Sylvia Dempsey of Newport News, VA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 23, 2022, from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC with a celebration of life service following in the chapel at 2:00 pm with Rev. Mike Williams officiating and burial following at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
