SCOTLAND NECK – Adrian Franklin May, Sr., age 89, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023 at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro.

Adrian was born on January 8, 1934 to Zollie Thomas May and Elsie Pearce May in Franklin County, NC.  Adrian was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He cherished his grandchildren, great-grandchild, and loved all animals, especially his cats and dogs.  He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956. Adrian was the manager of Blackwell Tire in Scotland Neck for twenty-eight years, a member and deacon of Dawson Baptist Church, and a volunteer fireman for the Scotland Neck Fire Department for twenty-one years.  Adrian’s favorite past times were fishing, spending time at the beach, playing cards and dominoes with his brother, and spending time with his beloved cat, Tommy.  He also loved feeding all wildlife, including homeless cats and dogs.  He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Along with his parents, Adrian was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Alice Jean Darden May; two brothers, Arvey “A.K.” May and Claude Thomas May; and two sisters, Claire May and Alda May Blythe.

Adrian is survived by his daughters, Donna Maria May and husband Martin Keith “Marty” May and Alice “Charlene” May all of Scotland Neck; his son, Adrian Franklin “Frankie” May, Jr. and wife Susan “Susie” B. of Scotland Neck; his granddaughter, Mandy Nicole Monroe of Las Vegas, NV; his grandsons, Joseph Paul King, Jr., Adrian Christopher “Chris” May, and William James “Will” May all of Scotland Neck; his great-granddaughter, Elena Nicole Lee of Las Vegas, NV; his sisters, Lois M.  Jones of Swansboro, Senora M. Wheless and husband James of Louisburg, and Joyce M. Stanley of Swansboro; his special friends, Lee and Glenda Marks and Frank and Teresa Gonzalez all of Scotland Neck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 10:45 am on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Dawson Baptist Church, 9775 Thirteen Bridges Road, Enfield, NC.  A celebration of life memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Rev. Ricky Sorie presiding.

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. May. He was a very kind and generous neighbor who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
We played many games of cards and dominoes after his long hard days at Blackwells. His knowing smile and fatherly advice was always welcomed by us younger guys at the Triangle.
He will be sorely missed.
