BURLINGTON, NC – Alice Jeans Coggin, age 87, formerly of Ahoskie, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center of Burlington, NC.

Mrs. Coggin was born on November 5, 1933 to Lonnie and Lois Medlin Jeans in Franklin County, NC. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. Alice loved a friendly game of bridge and reading a good book. She was a great cook and enjoyed trying new recipes, especially for her bridge club. Alice collected butterflies, angels and hugs. She loved watching sports and adored spending time with family and friends. Her legacy is being a Mom, Granny and GG. Today she walks and talks with the Lord, no doubt sharing stories about her family & friends. Her spirit lives on through the lives she touched along the way. We are all grateful for her love.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Ray Coggin, Sr., three sisters, Mae Jeans, Lucille Cleaton, and Shirley Jeans; and brothers, Bobby, Duel, Benny, and Ervin Jeans.

Alice is survived by her son, Philip Ray Coggin, Jr. of Liberty, NC; two daughters, Wanda Coggin Woodford, and Sharon Cox, both of Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Brandy Woodford and husband Steve Cauthen of Greensboro, NC, Daniel Cox and wife Keri of Greensboro, NC, and Ally Coggin of Liberty, NC; three great-grandchildren, Mitchell Hedrick, Carmen Hedrick, and Ellie Cauthen; four sisters, Joyce Vick, and Faye Parker, both of Rocky Mount, NC, Edna Goelzer of Mooresville, NC, and Kaye Lilly and husband William of Vanceboro, NC.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 1:30 PM at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Dr. Jesse Croom and Rev. Anita Thompson officiating. Burial will be at 4:00 PM at Forest Hills Cemetery, 350 N 1st St, Nashville, NC 27856. A memorial service will be held at The Village at Brookwood, 1860 Brookwood Ave, Burlington, NC 27215, on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Lee Edwards officiating.

Ray, Wanda, and Sharon, my heart goes out to you in the loss of your beautiful Mother. She and Phil were such good neighbors and friends of ours when we lived in Ahoskie many years ago. I’m so glad Alice and I talked via phone a couple weeks before she died. A special place in my heart for all of you.

To Wanda and her family, I’m very sorry for the loss of your mother. I will always remember the day you came to our home with Donna for a visit and ate my mother’s homemade soup. Now your mother is in Paradise with Donna, her husband David and my parents, Irvin and Katherine Shores. My wife, Brandi and I will remember you and your family in our prayers. God Bless.
