AHOSKIE, NC – Alma Cotton Taylor, age 100, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the Accordius Health at Creekside Care in Ahoskie, NC.

Alma was born on July 26, 1922 to James Cleveland Cotton and Blanche Smith Cotton in Norfolk, VA. Alma always took great pride in yard, making sure her flower beds were beautiful and of course had a big garden to help feed the family. She spent many years working at Copeland Drug store in Ahoskie. She enjoyed spending hot summer weekends on the Chowan River with her family and friends. She always had a huge smile, bubbly personality, that never met a stranger. Alma was a proud grandmother and great grandmother that will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and her brother.

Alma is survived by her two sons, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.


Family and friends can view and pay respects to Mrs. Alma on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the Harrellsville Cemetery, Harrellsville, NC.

I worked with Alma as a helper during my high school years at Copeland’s. I had no idea she was still enjoying life! My deepest condolences to the family in your loss. She was a real joy to work with!

Jerry, John & family we extend our heartfelt condolences. I always enjoyed talking to Ms Alma at the drug store! Also when I woluld visit her at the nursing home she would make my day although she would say I made her day & we both knew we were loved by the other!

To Jerry, John Erwin and children. I loved my Aunt Alma. I sure wish your Aunt Jean (my Mom) and Alma’s brother Erwin had not had such shortened lives. Those three would have been such support for one another as the years past.
I hope they are together in heaven, though, along with Granddaddy and Grandma Cotton. Love, Cousin Carolyn
