Alton Reid, age 85, of Ahoskie died at the Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.
He was born on March 27, 1930 to the late Calvin and Addie Reid of Ahoskie, NC. Mr. Reid served the United States Army for some twenty-two years prior to retiring. Following his service to his country he worked as a Highway Patrolman for the Maryland State Highway Patrol for fourteen years and retired. Mr. Reid came to make his home in Ahoskie in 1991. He enjoyed gardening and cutting grass. He was married to Zellow Hunter in May 19, 2013.
He was preceded in death by mother, Addie Summers Reid, father, Calvin Reid, sisters, Viola Reid and Garnett Reid, brothers, Leon Reid and Floyd Reid.
Alton is survived by his wife Zellow Hunter Reid, five daughters, Tisha Reid and Donna Reid both of Maryland, Patricia Reid of Pennsylvania, Debbie Deitz of North Carolina and Darlene Reid of Arizona, three sons, Alton Reid, Jr. and Wayne Reid both of Delaware and Joesepf Reid of Maryland, stepson, Sherrod Newberry Hall and his wife Monona of Elizabeth City, NC
Visitation will be held at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 7:00-8:30 pm.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 2:30 pm at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie, NC with Dr. James Shearn officiating. The interment will follow at the Reid Family Cemetery, 841 Ahoskie Cofield Road, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
