Glenda and Holly, I have just found out tonight about Alvin’s passing and Ms.Basnight and Holly’s husband. I am so sorry. I have not seen Jill since school started back but saw her coworkers tonight and they told me not having any idea that i knew Alvin. I am so sorry. Mom and I were just laughing the other day about our old neighborhood and oh how I loved living across the st. from Alvin/Glenda and riding the jeep in the afternoons when you two got off of work. I know the neighbor hood kids bugged you as a young couple but we Loved you two. I have lots of fond memories. Love you.

Glenda and Holly and other family members–I was so sorry to learn of Alvin’s death. I met Alvin in 1974 when I worked with the Probation/Parole in New Bern. Even after I moved to Raleigh, to continue work with the department, I still had contact with Alvin. He was kind enough to come to my retirement several years ago and I had the pleasure of attending his a couple of years ago. He always had a smile and I knew how dedicated he was to his family. He will be missed and I am glad that our paths crossed. May God hold you in the palm of His hand and comfort you of your loss. God’s Best to you. Brenda Turner Narron ( He knew me as “Hog Turner”)

To Alvin’s Family and Friends

Alivin, lived his life without reservation, fully and completely giving of himself freely to all who he encounted. His joy of life must inspire each and every one of us to remember him and emulate his love of laughter and willingness to be a lover of people. Though we have never met Alvin, our best friends inspired us with the stories of Alvin, creating a space in our heart that motivates us to be more like Alvin Basnight. With deepest prayers to all who he has touched and who will miss him in the days and years to come.
