The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Lee Canipe will be officiating the service. The interment will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro.

Mrs. Alyce Perry Gatling passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital. Mrs. Gatling was a devoted member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church that she loved dearly. She especially loved cooking and feeding church families. Mrs. Gatling was a member of Fanny Underwood Circle and a member of the Mixon Sunday School Class. She was a faithful telephone visitor and loved gardening. She also loved her family dearly.

Mrs. Gatling was born on July 19, 1924 to the late Vandy B. and Bert Hobbs Perry. She was also preceded in death by her husband James Hartwell Gatling, Jr., her son James H. Gatling, III, six sisters; Mary Wynn, Ethel Johnson, Garnet Forbes, Vivian Myers, Doris Myers, and Ruth Chamblee, and two brothers; Carl and Raymond Cowan.

Left to cherish her memory is three daughters; Betty Jean G. Baum and her husband Johnnie of Frisco, NC, Louise G. Smith and her husband Larry of Williamsburg, VA, Cheryl G Chamblee and her husband Earl of Ahoskie, NC, one daughter-in-law, Patsy Gatling, seven grandchildren; Teri Tench and her husband Charlie of Charles City, VA, Keith Bowden and his wife Ronda of Portsmouth, VA, Lisa Reynolds and her husband Phil of Virginia Beach, VA, Kevin Bowden of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Larry William Smith, Jr. and his wife Amy of Hayes, VA, Phillip Askew and his wife Amber of Hertford, NC, Marcus Gatling and his friend Connie of Richmond, VA, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren along with a very special friend T.K. Warren.

mrs gatlingwas a lovely person I enjoyed fixing her hair im so glad I got the chance to meet her im sorry for your loss

One of the sweetest women I have ever known in my life. Love and prayers to the family. Wonderful sister, mother, grandmother, friend. I know she will be so missed.
