EURE, NC – Ayden Michael Hawks and Keeton Leo Hawks, beloved sons of Christy Craig and Brandon Hawks, tragically passed away on July 9, 2023, due to a car accident in Bertie County, North Carolina. Ayden and Keeton were born in Suffolk, Virginia. Their lives were cut short, leaving a void in the hearts of their family and friends.

Quiet and composed, Ayden was wise beyond his years. He loved nature and found beauty in the smallest of God’s creations. Recently he found a love of photography because he could capture that beauty and hold it forever. He was a thinker, fixer, video game master, and technology aficionado. He embodied a sweet, calm, and peaceful spirit. That spirit made him an amazing big brother and loyal friend. His kind heart allowed him to love all people. His love for people instilled a desire to see that the world knew of God’s love and His sacrifice for all mankind, even to the point of overcoming his shyness to stand before the masses and share the gospel. He’d planned to preach to the nations, and he did.

Although Keeton was small in size and stature, he made up for it in personality and spirit. His joy and love of life filled the room. If it could be climbed, he climbed it. If it fit in a basketball hoop, he shot it. If it had wheels, he rode it. Everyone was Keeton’s friend even if they didn’t know it. He loved people with every ounce of his being. He made it his mission to make people smile and to grasp hold of the joy found in God. He was not ashamed of his love of God. It didn’t matter if he was in a restaurant or store, he would sing whatever song God laid on his heart. In one of Keeton’s songs he wrote, “No more fear on me. God is with you. He has not given you a spirit of fear, but a spirit of light.”

The brothers are survived by their mother and stepfather, Christy and Scott Craig, and their father and fiancée, Brandon Hawks and Lindsey Underhill. They leave behind siblings: Joshua, Samuel, Hannah, Grace, Sarah, Connor, and Kade, who will forever cherish the memories shared with their dear brothers.

In this time of indescribable grief, Ayden and Keeton’s maternal grandparents, Mike and Bonnie Blowe of Winton, and paternal grandparents, Scott and Jodie Hawks of Ayden, mourn the loss of their beloved grandsons. The great grandsons’ maternal great-grandmother, Mona Rose of Ahoskie, and paternal great-grandfather, Doug Hawks of NY, also share in this profound sorrow.

Ayden and Keeton’s aunt, Charlotte Stanley and husband Brian of Clayton, NC, and uncle, Britt Hawks of NY, will forever remember their nephews with love and affection, along with their first cousin, Matthew Stanley. The Hawks brothers also leave behind numerous extended family members and friends.

The services to honor Ayden and Keeton will be as follows: Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Family Life Center, Carpenter Shop Church. Funeral services will commence at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary at the Carpenter Shop Church in Ahoskie, NC, with Pastor Wallace Phillips officiating. Following the service, Ayden and Keeton will be laid to rest at Ahoskie Cemetery. The church will livestream the service through their website and on their Facebook page.

During this difficult time, let us come together to support Ayden and Keeton’s family and friends, surrounding them with love, comfort, and prayers. May the memories of Ayden and Keeton live on in our hearts, reminding us of the preciousness of life and the importance of cherishing every moment we have with our loved ones.

A Children’s Home will be constructed in Kenya in honor Ayden and Keeton. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to continue their legacy, C/O Carpenter Shop Church, PO Box 395, Ahoskie, NC 27910, marked with Ayden and Keeton or online by clicking here

Though I never had the pleasure of knowing these boys please know that my heart and prayers go out to you and everyone connected to these beautiful boys. I must admit that I have cried about 7 times concerning this situation. Yet I also find Comfort in Holy Spirit and because of the fervency of how these boys chose to follow Christ and serve people in Jesus’ Name, has caused me to be even more radical for Christ! May their life song to Christ continue to be heard in the earth for years to come. Blessings,
Rev. Marsha Thomas
