Barbara Hale Whitehead

Barbara Hale Whitehead, 85, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

Barbara was born on March 14, 1932 in Scotland Neck, NC to the late Paul Hale and Pearlie Madry Hale.  A loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Barbara loved reading, gardening, ceramics, fishing, needlework, quilting, and knitting, but loved her family and friends above all else.  She married Richard Samuel Whitehead, Jr. on July 10, 1951 and together they raised 5 children.  Richard preceded her in death in March 1999.  Barbara worked for many years as a Bookkeeper at the Columbian Peanut Company in Scotland Neck.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her sons, Glen Alan Whitehead and Donald Keith Whitehead; her granddaughter, Kristi Whitehead; and her siblings, Ellovene, Mabel, Woodrow, Ethel, Daisy, and Paul.

She is survived her loving daughters, Susan Whitehead Skinner and husband Jeff of Indian Beach, Sharon Whitehead Turner of Greenville, and Paula Whitehead Downs of Greenville; her sister, Elsie Gordon of Callahan, FL; her grandchildren, Richard “Corey” Alan Whitehead, Amanda Whitehead Boyd, Isaac Whitehead, Davin Whitehead, Hannah Skinner Kelly, George “Ned” Skinner, Morgan Turner, and Emily Downs; and her great-grandchildren, Mason Whitehead, Benjamin Boyd, and Harper Grey Boyd.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck.  The Reverend Lennie Waters will be presiding.
