Bessie Jean Baker, age 79, of Ahoskie, passed away on January 1, 2015 at her residence.

She was born on June 15, 1935 to Robert and Aileen Jones Evans in Ahoskie, NC. Bessie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, enjoyed The Golden Girls, listening to Elvis Presley and everyone knew her favorite color was pink. She worked in the lunch room at Park Elementary School for over 30 years. Bessie was a loving mother and grandmother always putting others needs before hers, having a huge kind heart for everyone.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, George Glenn Baker, and her siblings.

Bessie is survived by her, daughter, Shirley Matthews and her husband Billy of Ahoskie, seven grandsons, Jessie Bradshaw, Frankie Bradshaw, Jeffrey Bradshaw, George Glenn Baker, Jr., Brian Baker, Justin Baker, and Timothy Baker; three granddaughters, Brandi Casper, Krystal Shaver, Jennifer Bradshaw, and many, many great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 4, 2015, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015, at 2:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Greg Hurdle officiating, with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
