Bessie Ward Smith age 87 of Cofield died Friday, May 07, 2010 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie. She was born February 5, 1923 in Bertie Co. to the late Miley Ward and Annie Elizabeth Miller Ward. She was the wife of the late Cecil Lynn Smith.
She was a homemaker, a member of Powellsville Baptist church, avid reader and gardner and retired from Family Dollar store in Ahoskie,
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, May 10, 2010 at 2 PM at the graveside in Hillcrest Cemetery in Colerain.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons J.C. (Jimmy) Smith and his wife Alisa and Miley Wayne Smith both of Suffolk,VA, a daughter Judith Willis and her husband Jack C. of Orcracoke, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Cecil Earl Smith, a daughter Shirley Smith Farmer and a grandson John Michael White.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie.
