Betty King Britton, age 76, of Ahoskie died Wednesday September 30, 2009 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

She was born December 3, 1932 in Hertford County to the late Robert J. Britton and Minnie King Britton.

Betty was a graduate of Chowan Junior College in Murfreesboro and Shorter College in Rome, GA. She taught public school in Georgia and North Carolina and worked in the Salvation Army Day Care Center in Chicago, IL. She later lived in Ahoskie and was an active member of First Baptist Church and secretary of the W.M. U. Her love for poetry inspired her to pen multiple lines of verse. A compilation may be read in the church library. In later years Betty resided at Pinewood Manor Adult Care and Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

Left to cherish her memory is her son Allen Britton Foster of Amarillo, TX.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the graveside in Highland Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Daniel Glaze will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, P.O. Box 649, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.

Wow, I know that I am late. Mrs Foster was like a second mom to me when they lived in Chicago. Allen and I were best friends. She was always wonderful to us and so patient. God Bless and may the perpetual light of the Lord shine upon her.

I lived near Betty years ago, and remember her as a loving kind person who very much loved her little boy.

What a sweet and wonderful lady. I have such fond memories of her when I was a little girl at FBC-Ahoskie. My sympathies to her family.
