AHOSKIE, NC – Betty Raynor Willoughby, age 84, passed away on October 13, 2016 at the Creekside Care & Rehab of Ahoskie, NC.
Mrs. Willoughby was born on February 21, 1932 to Garner and Ola Jernigan Raynor in Bertie County, NC. Betty worked as a telephone clerk before retiring after many years. She was an active volunteer for many community services, including the local Senior Citizens Center and Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital. Betty was a member of Creech Memorial Baptist Church where she was a former member of the choir and served as a Sunday school teacher. She loved her flowers and was meticulous about her gardens and home, which was evident to anyone who could ride by and see her working in her flowers and anyone who visited her home. She was a loving wife, mother and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Milton Thomas Willoughby, her brother, Willis Raynor, and sisters, Anne Laura Hoggard, and Ally Mae Nowell.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Thomas Willoughby and wife, Lynette of Ahoskie; a brother, Hezzie Raynor and wife, Meryl of Norfolk, VA; a sister-in-law, Lilly Mae Raynor of Chesapeake, VA; two grandsons, John Thomas Willoughby and wife, Lindsay of Ahoskie, and Michael Willoughby and wife, Lucy of Brisbane, Australia; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Willoughby of Ahoskie; and four great-grandsons, Nathan Willoughby of Ahoskie, Aiden-Michael Willoughby, Gracin Willoughby, and Nicholas Willoughby, all of Brisbane, Australia. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 4:00 pm at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, with the Rev. David Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
