AHOSKIE, NC – Billy Sunday Mulder, Jr, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on January 11, 1947, in Ahoskie, North Carolina, to the late Bill Sunday Mulder and Lucille Broglin Mulder. Billy lived a fulfilling life of dedication and kindness.

Billy’s journey through life was marked by diverse experiences and unwavering commitment to his loved ones. He dedicated many years to law enforcement before embarking on a new adventure as a truck driver. Known affectionately as “Daddy Rabbit” on the CB radio, Billy relished the freedom of the open road and the joy of exploring new places. Outside of work, Billy had a deep affection for dogs and found solace in working in the yard. He also possessed a passion for restoring old trucks and enjoyed strumming at his guitar. Among his many passions, his commitment to Mercy Church shone brightly. Billy served his church diligently and happily fulfilled numerous roles, from driving the Drusa truck and on trips for fellow church members. His unwavering faith made the church an essential part of his life, guiding him with love and purpose. During this difficult time, let us come together to remember Billy with love and support, honoring the impact he had on all of our lives.

Billy will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Carol, and his two daughters, Kim Mulder Rawls of Aulander and Debbie Mulder Futrell (Jonathan) of Murfreesboro. Additionally, he leaves behind his two stepsons, Tracy Clements (Hazel) of Littleton and Jesse Clements of Alabama; his stepdaughters, Danette Love of Roanoke Rapids and Nikki Barnes of Florida; grandchildren, Madison Rawls, Lauren Coley, Hunter Coley (Millie). Dustin Futrell (Lauren), Darian Clements, Taylor Stevens (Joe), Kayla Hudgins, Kassidy Barnes, Gary Love, Jr., Travis Newsome, and McKenzie Newsome; great-grandchildren, Harley, Rylie, Autumn, Riker, and Serious; brother, Edward “Ernie” Mulder (Dale) of Colerain; two sisters, Linda Overton (Don) of Grandy, and Peggy Newsome (Ernie) of Scotland Neck; three nephews, Andy Mulder (Liz), Greg Mulder (Martha Ellen), Donnie Overton (Jennifer); niece, Melody Overton; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

I worked with Billy back in the 1970’s at the Ahoskie Police Department. Simply put, he was a friend! My prayer for your family is that you find comfort in knowing that he is now in a better place because of his faith in Jesus Christ. I pray also you receive many wonderful gifts of the Holy Spirit through the love of God. Blessings on you all!

Carol and family, my heart is broken for all of you. Billy was a dear friend and we enjoyed our talks together, and I enjoyed his “Mulder” sense of humor. He made me laugh so much! I’m so glad we had Christmas together and I’m so glad that he considered me a friend that he could call on for anything. I am going to miss him terribly, but I know that there is no more pain and suffering where he is now. He loved eagles, and now he’s flying high with them. I am always here if you need me, and I will hold Billy in my heart forever. Rest with Jesus, “Mulder”. Love you always.
