Mrs. Brett Sewell Cooke, age 94 died at her home in Rich Square on Friday, July 16, 2010. Mrs. Cooke was born in Union on October 30, 1915, the only daughter of Nebbie and Nettie Brett Sewell. Educated at East Carolina Teachers’ College, Mrs. Cooke taught the seventh grade in Rich Square from 1937-1940. She married Manning P. Cooke, Sr. in July of 1940.
As a homemaker, Mrs. Cooke was a superb cook. She loved her home and was fiercely independent. She continued her mother’s tradition of flower gardening. She also enjoyed the lively bird activity in her backyard.
Survivors include two sons; Manning P. Cooke, Jr. and his wife Linda of Pullman, WA and Michael S. Cooke and his wife Anne of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Patrick, Ken and John Cooke of Seattle, WA, Amy Leach of Tallahassee, FL and one great grandson, Samuel Cooke.
I was real sorry to hear of Mrs. Cooke’s death. My prayers and symphany go out to the Cooke family. I will include you own our prayer list at Forest Hills Baptist Church Wilson N.C.
