Virginia Beach, VA – Bruce Winston Medford, age 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at the Liza’s Residential Care, Assisted Living Facility in Virginia Beach, VA.

Mr. Medford was born on October 5, 1937 to Mack and Gladys Lewis Medford in Fountain, NC. Bruce was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle that always put God first. He married the love of his life, Mary in 1954 and to this marriage four children were born. Bruce retired from Flowers Baking Company after 33 years of dedicated service. He was a devoted member of Kempsville Christian Church where he served as deacon. His most cherished hobby was capturing those special memories with photography, with his favorite being weddings. Bruce also enjoyed fishing when he had the chance. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Besides his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by a son, infant boy Medford, daughter, Deborah E. Medford, great-granddaughter, Hannah Gallagher, and brother, Harvey Medford.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary, two daughters, Brenda Sullivan and husband John of Shallotte, NC, and Cheryl Sawyer of Virginia Beach, VA; three granddaughters, Cheryl Meadows of Wilmington, NC, Suzanne Helvey and husband Luke of Fort Walton, FL, and Brooke Marie Sawyer of Fort Walton, FL; two grandsons, Travis Austin Crisp of Atlanta, GA, and Johnny Sawyer of Virginia Beach, VA; two great-granddaughters, Nautica Philyaw and Haley Meadows; four great-grandsons, Nathaniel Philyaw, Harley Philyaw, Cory Meadows, and Quinn Sawyer; three brothers, Sam Medford and wife Marie, Noyel Medford and wife Lois Anne, Ray Medford and wife Estelle, all of Tarboro, NC; four sisters, Meryl Cullifer, Marie Harper and husband Jerry, Ann House and husband Haywood, and Jean Pittman and husband Glen, all of Tarboro; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 27, 2019, from 12:00 pm until 12:45 pm at Hobgood Pentecostal Holiness Church, Hobgood, NC with a celebration of life funeral service to begin at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary with Rev. Josh Childress and Rev. Dwight Jones officiating, with burial to follow in Hobgood Cemetery.

Your memory and love will always be in all of our hearts. Even though u were in Virginia most of your life we looked forward to your visits and going to spend summers with you because we knew u would give us so many things.Will never forget the vacations we had together with Pete and I.God has ended your journey on this earth but we know you are with him mom and dad.Hope to join you all one day so look for me.Until then rest in peace. I love you and your memory will never die on this earth.

Mr. Medford will be deeply missed. I will never forget riding in “Air Force 1” and being told to give a big colegate smile for a picture.

Will always remember Mr Bruce taking pictures. He was a servant, getting to church long before everyone else to make coffee. He was quick to share his faith and his hope for a future reunion with precious family members.
