AHOSKIE, NC – Edward Bryant Norville, age 86, passed away on April 20, 2015 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC, surrounded by his loving caregivers, Linda and Earl Futrell.

Mr. Norville was born on June 25, 1928, a son of the late Herbert and Mattie (Smith) Norville in Rocky Mount, NC. He was the owner/operator of a retail tire sales and service business, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ahoskie. Mr. Norville was retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant. Bryant was a member of the Ahoskie Fire Department and the Ahoskie Rural Volunteer Fire Department for over 27 years, serving in many capacities in each department, retiring as Chief of the Volunteer Rural Fire Department. He was also a Boy Scout Leader for several years. In 1959 Mr. Norville, along with Lonnie Skinner and Carroll Askew, organized and started the Ahoskie Rescue Squad. As founding members, they solicited donations and built the building on First Street(Hwy 561) that is still used today by EMS. Bryant was also very active in Woodmen of the World and enjoyed the dinners at the lodge.

Left to cherish his memory is his sister Mary N. Campbell, of Jupiter, FL; a brother, Herbert C. Norville Jr. of TX, and sister-in-law, Alice Norville of Buxton, NC; his special friend and companion, Shirley White of Ahoskie, NC; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Linda, Earl and April Futrell, and Julie and Thomas Williams.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, with Rev. Richard Rice, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ahoskie Cemetery

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity of one’s choice.
