WOODLAND, NC – Cary Jay Long, age 59, of Peachtree Road, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Vidant North Hospital of Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Mr. Long was born on February 19, 1962 to Don Long and Joyce Lankford Inman in California. Cary served his country proudly in the United States Army. He cherished his family and was an amazing dad. He enjoyed spending time of the water driving his boat and going to the range shooting guns. He also liked to take relaxing rides on his motorcycle. Cary especially loved playing board games with his granddaughter, Victoria, and video chatting with another granddaughter, Ellie Grace. He was loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by father, Don Long, mother, Joyce Inman, stepfather, Jerry Inman, two brothers, Rodney and Teddy Long, and brother-in-law, Russell Carpenter.

Cary is survived by his four daughters, Ashley  Exum of Woodland, Janine Garbette and husband Matthew of Charleston, SC, Stacey Johnson-Wheeler of Moncks Corner, SC, and Heather McKinney and husband Nathan of Moncks Corner, SC; son, Charlie Long and wife Kayla of Dublin, GA; four granddaughters, Victoria Exum of Woodland, Ellie Grace Long of Dublin, GA, Destinee Brown and husband Mario of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Janie Exum and husband Levi of Roanoke Rapids, NC; four sisters; Sandy Carpenter, Rhonda Johnson, Jolene Todd and husband Bruce, and Vonnie Ghosn and husband Raymond, all of Virginia; brother , Grover Long of Texas; special family friends, William and Sue Ayscue of Woodland, Dawn Ayscue of Woodland, Bryan Ayscue and wife Melanie of Jackson, NC, Wyatt Liverman and wife Grace of Beaufort, SC; great-grandson, Grayson  Brown of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and one on the way. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC.

I enjoyed getting to know Carey through many meals shared at the Grapevine at the back table. He was knowledgeable, interesting and funny. My heart goes out to his family. May God bless you all!
