Catherine Fitzmorris Rainey, 76, passed away at her residence in Enfield, North Carolina, on Monday, June 8, 2015. She was born on January 12, 1939 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Charles James and Willie Mae Fitzmorris.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marie Barrows of New Bern, North Carolina, her brother, Frank Fitzmorris of Memphis, Tennessee, and her nephew, Michael Fitzmorris of Gambrills, Maryland.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 52 years, John Spencer Rainey of Enfield, North Carolina; her son, John Spencer Rainey, Jr. and wife, Kathy and their sons, Cole and Grayson of Midlothian, Virginia; and her daughter, Catherine Rainey Rock and husband, Kevin and son, Matthew of New Bern, North Carolina. She also leaves her brother Mike Fitzmorris of Memphis, Tennessee; brother, Tom Fitzmorris and his wife, Rebecca of Gambrills, Maryland; and her sister, Willie DeGraffenried and her husband, Robert of Orlando, Florida and a nephew and several nieces.
Catherine worked for 34 years starting with Peoples Bank and Trust Company ending with Centura Bank in Enfield. She enjoyed working with her many customers and colleagues over the years. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and extended family. Catherine was a faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Rocky Mount. She will be remembered for her kindness, love of others and giving spirit. The family wishes to convey their appreciation to friends and neighbors who have supported Catherine during her extended illness. The family would also like to thank her caregivers and Nash Hospice.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Parish Hall in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 6:30 until 8:00 pm. A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 3:30pm at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church Cemetery in New Bern, North Carolina.
