Scotland Neck, NC – Charles Henry Ezzell, age 74, of Harrell Circle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 23, 1946 to Henry H. Ezzell and Lilly Pauline Dale Ezzell in Bertie County, NC. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. Charles had a jovial sense of humor, always cutting up and telling a good story. Charles retired as a Corrections Officer for Caledonia Prison. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching a western as often as he could. He had a great passion for cooking, whether it be a family gathering, for his hunting friends, for his coworkers at the prison, or a dinner at home with he and his wife. Charles will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Other than his parents, Charles was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Bell, and Audrey Elliott, and brothers, Oscar Leon Ezzell, Cleveland Wilbert Ezzell, and Marvin Ezzell.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years,  Hope, sister, Barbara Ann Dixon of Scotland Neck, NC; four daughters, Angela Cross and husband Mitch of Hope Mills, NC, Sheila Woolard and husband Cecil, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Barbara Gail Edwards and husband Eric of Osage Beach, Missouri, Wendy Acuna of Scotland Neck; five grandsons, Ryan Cross and wife Emily of Roanoke Rapids, Michael Cross and wife Ashley of Pine Bluff, Jonathan Cross of Ft. Stewart, GA, Tyler Woolard and fiancé Rebecca Zemmelman of Blue Ashe, Ohio, and Ashton Slade Edwards and wife Alison of Manning, SC; eight granddaughters, Kelly Stetler and wife Lauren of Dayton, OH, Nicole Adkins-Setty and husband Joshua of Dayton, Ohio, Rebecca Edwards of Osage Beach, Missouri, Angelica Castro of Wilmington, Olivia Castro of Scotland Neck, Lysa Acuna of Scotland Neck, Daniela Acuno of Scotland Neck, and Makayla Acuno of Scotland Neck; five great-grandsons, Liam Cross, Micah Adkins-Setty, Tristian Adkins-Setty, Ryder Adkins-Setty, and Beckem Stetler; two great-granddaughters, Leala Posey, and Camilla Adkins-Setty; and his beloved fur baby, Joe Joe.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at 11:00 am at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Scotland Neck, NC, with Rev. Matt Jones officiating.

I am saddened to hear of Charles’ passing. He always kept me laughing and had a most generous and giving heart. He genuinely cared about people and was quick to lend a hand and make everyone smile. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
