CONWAY, NC – Charles Ronald Byrd, Sr., age 71, of Jenkins Mill Road, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at his home.
Mr. Byrd was born on September 25, 1948 to Tommy and Nellie Harrell Byrd in Hertford County, NC. Charles served his country proudly in the United States Air Force before retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. Upon retirement, Charles worked with quality control with a couple of different manufacturing companies. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and spending time at the beach. Charles will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Byrd, a son, Thomas Byrd, and brothers, Gene and Benny Byrd.
Charles is survived by a son, Charles Byrd, Jr. and wife Robin of Murfreesboro; daughter-in-law, Melinda Byrd of Bristol, VA; two grandsons, Josh Byrd and Christopher Byrd, both of Murfreesboro; three granddaughters, Hannah, Stella, and Taylor Byrd, all of Bristol, VA; a brother, Joe Byrd of Gates, NC; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2020, at 2:00 pm at the Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, NC, with Matt Ledbetter, officiating.

I am so sorry to hear this but I know you have precious memories. When his grandson was in my class, Mr. Byrd came to school & talked to our 6th grade about his experiences in the Air Force. I admire him for his love of his country and his love of his family. My thoughts & prayers are with you all, especially Josh & Chris.
