HARRELLSVILLE – Charlotte Johnston Askew, age 89, of Christian Harbor Road, died Monday, February 20, 2012, at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Ahoskie.

Mrs. Askew was born in Bertie County on October 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Nathan Henry Johnston and Velma Ruth Minton Johnston. She was a member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Judith Hunter and husband Butch of Anderson, SC; a son Nathan Edwin Askew and wife Annette of Harrellsville, NC; sisters, Dot Mackay of Wagram, NC, and Sandra O‚??Connor of Baton Rouge, LA; brother Carl Johnston of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Heidi Askew of Truckee, CA, Andrew Hunter of Anderson, SC, Nathan Askew of Harrellsville, NC; and a great grandchild Ashley Hunter of Philadelphia, PA. Besides her husband, Ralph Edwin Askew, Mrs. Askew was predeceased by a son Timothy Ralph Askew.

The family will receive friends at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at Christian Harbor Baptist Church on Friday, February 24, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Hugh Mizelle officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrellsville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Christian Harbor Baptist Church, P.O. Box 326, Harrellsville, NC, 27924.

Charlotte; I will always remember your kind and loving way. You welcomed me to your home and made me feel loved. I haven’t had macaroni and cheese made as tasty as yours ever — I know you are in a beautiful place right now where you can join the rest of your family. Love and blessings…….
