Clayton Ray Whitley, Sr. age 72, of Scotland Neck, passed away on January 18, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was affectionately known as Muscles.
He was born on December 11, 1947 to Grover and Louise Whitley. Clayton graduated from Oak City High School. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was married to Molly Pittman on April 26, 1977. Clayton worked as a meat cutter for several of the grocery store chains until retiring in 2010 due to his health. Clayton loved his family and going to the club house in Oak City. He enjoyed being with his friends, Eddie, Herbie, Grayland, Bennie, Rusty, Nick, Travis, the late Cush Turner and the late Doug Cannon.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Meeks Whitley, father, Grover Cleveland Whitley, Sr. and three sisters, Margaret Roberson, Ann Brown and Donnie Martin.
Clayton is survived by his wife Molly of the home, daughter, Becky Whitley Conner and her husband Mark of Williamston; two sons, Clay Whitley and his wife Melissa of Scotland Neck, Michael Rogers and his wife Robbie of Rocky Mount; a brother, Grover Cleveland Whitley Jr. and his wife Betty of Tarboro; four granddaughters, Chasity Triaga and her husband Andy of Williamston, Tyler Chavonne and her husband Tyson of Fayetteville, Lexi Rogers of Rocky Mount and Ashleigh Sweat and her husband Stephen of Hillsboro; three grandsons, Brandon Whitley and his wife Allison of Wilmington, Caleb Whitley of Scotland Neck and Justin Stewart of Charleston, SC; three great-granddaughters, Lannie Whitley of Wilmington, Harper Whitley of Wilmington and Beth Triaga of Williamston and a great-grandson, Nicholas Triaga of Williamston.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 20, 2020 from 6:00-7:30PM at Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service in Scotland Neck.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11:00AM at the Chapel of Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service with the Rev. Matt Jones officiating.
There will be a private interment at the Trinity Episcopal Cemetery.

I know your hearts are heavy and broken but remember all the good times, always laughing and joking, the memories that will keep him with you every day and help your hearts to heal I pray. Clayton and Bill are cutting up right now as I write this message. The world is a little less bright without Clayton in it. I have many memories of us all at the beach I will never forget!
So sorry to hear about Clayton’s passing. I worked with him at Harris’ and Food Lion. I have known him for many years. He was one of the nicest men you will ever meet. My heart goes out to all of the family. May God bless you.

So sorry for your lost. Clayton Ray and I spent many a day playing together. We use to play under uncle Grover’s house with bottles and brickbats. What fun days on the farm in Oak City. God rest his soul and wrap his arms around his family.
