The family will gather to share memories of the life of Dale

MURFREESBORO, NC – Dale Lassiter, a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and definitely one of a kind, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born on November 19, 1938, in Northampton County, North Carolina. Dale lived a fulfilling life filled with adventure and a deep love for his family. His passing, at the age of 85, has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Dale’s professional career spanned nearly three decades, as he dedicated himself to public service. He retired from the Miami Beach Police Department in 1988 after serving as a patrolman, firearms trainer, and SWAT commander for 28 years. Dale’s commitment to law enforcement was unwavering, and he made significant contributions throughout his tenure.

Outside of work, Dale had a diverse range of interests that brought him joy and fulfillment. He proudly served in the Coast Guard for four years, specifically as a member of the Honor Guard during the statehood transition of Alaska. An adventurous spirit, Dale embraced life fully, finding solace in hunting various locations such as Alaska, Wyoming, Colorado, and the Florida Everglades.  He had an exceptional talent for rebuilding John Deere tractors, air boats, swamp buggies, and vintage street rods, an art form that showcased his craftsmanship and attention to detail. Dale had a magnetic personality and a wonderful sense of humor. He was known for always bringing laughter into the lives of others. Additionally, he loved hosting large gatherings for his friends and family.

As we say our final goodbyes to Dale Lassiter, let us remember him as a man who lived life to the fullest, cherishing his family, and finding joy in every moment. He was love and respected by many. He was honest and gave it to you straight. His advice to his family was always “Worry about something you can do something about”. His memory will continue to brighten our lives, and his legacy will endure through the love he shared with those around him.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Little Lassiter, his mother, Sallie Mary Smith Lassiter, a half-brother, Michael Lassiter, and a half sister, Janice Lassiter Vann Showalter.

Dale’s greatest source of pride and joy, however, was his beloved family. He treasured his wife, Carol, with whom he shared 46 years of adventures and cherished memories. Dale is also survived by his three daughters, who knew they could always count on him: Blair Elaine Lassiter (Sean Boswell) of Howey-in-the-Hills, FL; Mary Elizabeth Lassiter of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Kimberly Ann Lassiter of Sheridan, WY. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart: Ethan Shaw Zarkou of Salt Lake City, Nalin Tate Fletcher of Sheridan, and Cutter Linnea Sue Fletcher of Sheridan. Dale is further survived by his half-brother, Wayne Lassiter of NC, and his half-sister, Audrey Ransom of Wilmington, NC.

The family has arranged a visitation to celebrate Dale’s life and offer support to one another during this difficult time. It will take place on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel-Murfreesboro, in Murfreesboro, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Dale’s honor directly to PAWS of Hertford County, PO Box 153, Murfreesboro, NC 27855 or online by clicking here or Meherrin Baptist Church, 519 Meherrin Lane, Murfreesboro, NC 27855 or online by clicking here

Just Remember– there will still be “No Warning Shots” given.
