COMO, NC – Danny Damon Edwards, age 76, passed away on May 11, 2023, at the ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.
Mr. Edwards was born in Southampton County, Virginia, on January 9, 1947, the son of the late Marvin and Margaret Hedgepeth Edwards in Franklin, VA. Danny was a skilled mechanic and worked for several businesses and individuals during his career, including Murfreesboro Small Motors, Billy Edwards and Billy Hill, Colony Chevrolet, Suttle Chevrolet, and the town of Como, all while running his own business, Edwards Garage at night and on weekends. Billy was very civic minded and community oriented, serving on the Como Fire Department for over 30 years, the Ruritan Club for over 36 years, and serving as mayor of Como for four terms. All this he enjoyed immensely, but his true passion was being Danny Edwards KG4GEJ, a Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed many hours on the radio, conversing with other of his Ham Radio enthusiasts for over 25 years. Danny was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Besides his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Kenneth Stancil, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Joyce Nichols Edwards: his daughter, Debbie Edwards Stancil of Dudley, NC; three grandsons, Kenneth Morgan Stancil, III, Nicholas Stancil of Ahoskie, NC, and Christopher Stancil of Dudley, NC; and his special friend, Tommy Gee.
The family will receive friends at the home.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery, Como, NC, with Rev. Bob Deacon and Rev. Paul Ange officiating.
Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made directly to another one of Danny’s passions, PAWS of Hertford County; PO Box 153, Murfreesboro, NC, or by clicking here

To: Mrs. Joyce, Debbie, and the Edwards Family!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Mr. Danny was a good person. I will never forget the many times that he worked on my Mom’s (Shirley Jones-Worthington) vehicle. My Dad Bernard and Mr. Danny loved talking about cars and mechanical things. Be encouraged, Mrs. Joyce, because God will be your strength in the days to come.
Sorrowfully Submitted,
The Jones Family
