David Earl Brinkley, age 80 died at the Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie on Monday, July 13, 2009. He was a native of Hertford County, however made his home in the Menola community. He was married to Theresa Lassiter on January 15, 1962 and they enjoyed forty-seven years of marriage. He was a member of the Menola Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years, Sunday school director and choir member. Mr. Brinkley worked in the Menola community as a merchant most of his adult life. While working in the store he developed a passion for working on antique clocks and repairing guns. In 1971 he went to work for Carolina Aluminum a division of EASCO Corporation, where he worked for fourteen years until he retired in 1985.
Preceding him in death are his mother and father, Leslie Copeland Brinkley and Joseph Brinkley, one sister, Mildred Wiggins, three brothers; Jodie Ray, Starkie and Donald Brinkley.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Lassiter Brinkley of the home, two sisters; Betty B. Baggett and Edith B. Stocks both of Ahoskie, three brothers; Jack Brinkley of Aulander, Quinton Brinkley and his wife Frankie of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Linwood Brinkley and his wife Ada of Roxobel. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
