SCOTLAND NECK – Doris June Wall Tart, age 89, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Bryan Health and Rehab in Scotland Neck

Doris was born on May 22, 1934 to Alton and Marion Murphy Wall in Johnston County, NC. She married the love of her life, Melvin Ernest Tart, on March 18, 1950 and they were married for 69 years until his passing in 2019.  They ran Tart’s Grocery in Scotland Neck for many years and were famous for their delicious hot dogs.  Doris loved chocolate candy, flowers, and gardening and spent many enjoyable hours putting together puzzles and coloring.  A hard-working woman, Doris was loved greatly by her family and friends and will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Wall; and her son-in-law, Larry Hawkins.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Debbie Tart Flanagan and husband Greg of Scotland Neck, Patricia Ann Tart Hawkins of Escondido, CA, and Ernestine “Tini” Tart Allsbrook and husband George of Swansboro; her grandchildren, Nick Flanagan and wife Amanda, Grant Allsbrook Carper, Michael Allsbrook, and Jesse Hawkins and wife Angela; her great-grandchildren, Sarah Flanagan, Nathan Flanagan, Griffin Allsbrook Carper, Ruby Hawkins, Leo Hawkins, Juno Hawkins, Jonah Hawkins, and Alex Hawkins; her sister, Shirley Liggins of Cary; and her sister-in-law, Frankie Marquette and husband Tommy of Scotland Neck.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Letchworth Chapel in Scotland Neck.  A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Ricky Sorie presiding.  Burial will be at the White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Clayton.

We are very sad about Mrs. Tart. I’ve known her since Pat and Larry were maid of honor and best man in our wedding 51 years ago. Our hearts hurt for the family but know she is in a happier place. Love to all. Doug and Debbie Clifton Smile
