Dorothy Brinkley Pittman passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Halifax Baptist Church in Halifax. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Jimmy Jarrell and the Reverend Billy Howell will be presiding.
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
Dorothy along with her husband, Jack, had been a resident at Willow Wood Assisted Living Center in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for the past several months. She was a very gracious lady, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a friend to many people. One of her special joys in life was hosting the Pittman family reunion at their home in Halifax. She was a faithful member for over 60 years at Halifax Baptist Church, where she served in a number of positions. Dorothy began her professional career with the Bank of Halifax, and later, after their merger with Branch Banking and Trust Company, she became the branch manager. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States and Europe.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Carey Brinkley; her mother, Gene Mae Brinkley Maney; and her stepfather, John Maney.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jack “Punk” Pittman of Halifax; her son, Alex Pittman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; her step-sister, Mary Jane Davis of Hobgood; her sister-in-law, Doris Pittman Sykes of Enfield; and a number of nieces and nephews.
