CHESAPEAKE, VA – Dorothy Jones Clark, age 84, formerly of Hertford County, NC, passed away on December 3, 2018 at the Sentara Obici Hospital of Suffolk, VA.

Mrs. Clark was born on September 1, 1934 to John Paul and Rev. Doris Lassiter Jones in Roanoke Rapids, NC. It is with great sadness that the family announce her passing.  Dot graduated from Aulander High School then married Ivey Clark in 1954 and were married until his passing in October 2012.  They lived in Chesapeake, Virginia where they raised their three children.  She was the epitome of wife, mother, and grandmother.  She enjoyed gardening, drying flowers and was an avid reader, a fierce opponent in Scrabble and an expert at crossword puzzles.  She most enjoyed having her family around her.  She had a great sense of humor and taught us “laughter is the best medicine”.  We loved her stories of growing up in the Depression and teaching us to be creative with what you have, telling us of her picking cotton and digging peanuts in order to buy a prom dress for high school.  She taught us to value the simple things in life.

We are saddened to lose her, but we are certain and assured of the blessed hope we have in knowing we will see her again for eternity and thank Jesus for the one He gave us to be our mama.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ivey Clark; and her brother Clarence Jones of Windsor, NC.

She is survived by her sister Viola Loveless of Pensacola, FL; brother Earl Jones of Aulander, NC.  Her three children, Phillip Clark of Irmo, SC; Pamela King of Suffolk, VA; Paula Epley of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren Lauren Clark, Joshua Clark, Amanda King, Ashley and Alexandra Epley; two great grandchildren Addilyn Epley and Asher Clark.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm, prior to the service at Garrett~Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC. A celebration of life graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm at the Job Cemetery, Aulander, NC, with Pastor Greg Hurdle officiating.

My memories of Dot can never be erased. As I think back about them tears fill my eyes remembering the love we shared but I can smile through the tears knowing how happy she is today with Ivey and her mother. Phil, Pam and Paula, I love you.
