Douglas E. Lewis, “Big Daddy”, age 61, passed away August 31, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Lewis was born in Hertford County on October 5, 1954 to the late Donnie Edward Lewis, Jr. and Celia Brinkley Stroud. He married the love of his life on November 27, 1975. He was employed at Piggly Wiggly Store #34 in Greenville, NC as the meat manager for twenty-two years at this location. He was a member of Brantley ‘s Grove Baptist Church. Doug enjoyed playing golf with his friends and family. He loved to take family trips to the beach. Doug was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, and brother. “Big Daddy” was especially proud of his grandchildren, loving and supporting them in soccer, football, softball, baseball, and basketball, whatever season it may be.

Left to cherish “Big Daddy’s” memory is his mother, his loving wife, Cindy Harris Lewis, his daughter, Shanna Lewis Peace and her husband Mark of Ozark, AL, three grandchildren: Collin Douglas Peace, Brittany Karen Peace, and Kaitlyn Leigh Peace, two sisters: Rose Lewis Skinner of Greenville, NC and Sandra Lewis Pittman of Wilson, NC, one half-sister, Teresa Lewis of Hernado, MI, nieces Rose Ann Carr, Mandy Fay, and Brooklyn McLaughlin.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service with the Rev. Greg Hurdle and Rev. JN Baggett officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.

I never go in my barn without thinking of Doug.. He would bring our meat every Tuesday…all we had to do was leave the money..Loved talking to him..He was the best….my prayers are with all of you
