Mr. Durward Wilson Leggett, Sr., age 83 died at his residence on Monday, February 28, 2011. Mr. Leggett was the manager of Columbian Peanut Company/AMD for thirty-five years in Scotland Neck and Elizabethtown, NC. While living in Elizabethtown he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Lodge, the rescue squad and the Baptist church. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America as well. Mr. Leggett continued his civic duties in Scotland Neck, serving as treasurer and board member of Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck where he taught children’s Sunday school. He was a member of the Scotland Neck Masonic Lodge#689 and was one of the founding members of the Scotland Neck Jaycees.
Preceding him death are his mother and father; Helen Hilliard Leggett and Ernest Hodges Leggett, Sr.; one sister at birth; two brothers, Ernest H. Leggett, Jr. and Hilliard Montague Leggett.
Survivors include his wife Lake Allsbrook Leggett of the home; three daughters, Helen Lattus and her husband Jerry of Wilmington, NC, Ginny Mauter and her husband Bill of Atlanta, GA and Mary Hodges Ward and her husband Jim of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three sons, Woody Leggett and his wife Debbie of Wilmington, NC, Hilliard Leggett, II of Gaston, NC and Quentin Leggett and his wife Janet of Rocky Mount, NC; four grandchildren, Will, Sean, Jim and Anne Madison Leggett; two great grandchildren, Ella and Caid Leggett; a first cousin, Helen Hilliard Johnson of Deland, FL. Also surviving is Mr. Leggett’s little dog Molly.
