ENGELHARD, NC – Dylan Michael Edwards, age 16, died suddenly in the early morning hours, on Saturday, December 7, 2019 in a tragic accident with his younger brother, Brayden Alexander Deanes, who also left this earthly life to spend eternity with Jesus as well.

Dylan was born on February 28, 2003 to Daniel Edwards and Misty Jenkins Gibbs in Ahoskie, NC. He was a fun loving, sweet boy that loved his family. Dylan was as an outstanding student-athlete for the Lakers attending Mattamuskeet Early College High School. He loved all sports, however playing football, basketball, and baseball were at the top of his list. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting, especially duck hunting. Dylan cherished his truck. He made an impact on many people during his brief time with us. He was an extremely friendly “people person”, having never met a stranger and never at a loss for words during a conversation. Dylan will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sidney and Mary Jenkins, and his aunt, Serafina Ireland.

Left to cherish Dylan’s memory are his mother, Misty Jenkins Gibbs of Engelhard, father, Daniel Edwards and wife Lesley of Ahoskie, two brothers, Cameron Deanes of Engelhard, and Alden Gibbs of Engelhard; three sisters, Haley Casper of Ahoskie, Kaylee Edwards of Ahoskie, and  Riley Maddrey of Ahoskie; paternal grandparents, Brenda and Jesse “T-Tom” Piland of Ahoskie, and Dana Edwards and wife Mary of Currituck; Ann Moore of Ahoskie, and Ron and Barbara Walter of Winton. Also surviving are aunts, Tina Rawls and husband Robert of Millennium, Jenny Massey and husband Brian of Conway, Dedra Warmack and husband Joe of Rich Square, uncles, George Baker and wife Joyce of Woodland, Tim Baker and wife Claudia of Aulander, Sid Jenkins and wife Pam of Ahoskie and Larry Edwards of Ahoskie, great aunts, Rena Turner and husband Tim of Winton, and Bettie Ropelewski and husband Mike of Garner; and great uncles, Charles Jenkins and wife Maxine of Williamston, Grady Wheeler and wife Gladys of Goldsboro, Johnny Overton and wife Shirley of Ahoskie, and Donald Overton and wife Felicia of Cameron, NC, along with a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 am at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC and other times at the home of Brenda and “T-Tom” Piland.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Pastor Greg Hurdle and Pastor Bob Skeens officiating. Burial will follow at Aulander Cemetery, Aulander, NC

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mattamuskeet Early College High School in Dylan’s memory at 20392 US-264, Swanquarter, NC 27885 or online by clicking here

Misty my thoughts and prayers are with you with the loss of your 2 sons. My daughter Alissa loved Dylan very much as they had a special bond. We are all extremely heartbroken! She loved his sense of humor, His hugs, his beautiful smile that would light up a room, his love for his Truck, his Hair flips and they way he would brush his hair each time he walked out of her room, and especially his sense of humor and the love he had for his friends!! We will greatly miss him as I know you will a whole lot more!!! Thank you for sharing him with us over the years We love you Misty and those boys!!!
