AULANDER, NC- Edgar Robert Cale, age 77, died peacefully on January 5, 2017 at the Vidant Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, NC.
Mr. Cale, a native of Bertie County, was born on October 27, 1939 to James Darden and Johnie White Cale in Colerain, NC. Upon graduating high school, he became an apprentice for the FBI. Robert married the love of his life in 1961 and relocated to Virginia Beach. He began working as a Forensics Technician for the Virginia Beach Police department, retiring in 2000 after many years of dedicated service to the department. He was instrumental in the development of the latent fingerprinting process in the city of Virginia Beach. Robert was a hardworking man who always provided for his family. He enjoyed coin collecting, paint by number, putting puzzles together, and had a passion for humming birds, having tons return year after year for his pleasure. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hettie Jordan and brother, James Dalton Cale.
Edgar is survived by his wife Lessie, two sons, Jerry (Ridgley) Cale, and Donald (Lisa) Cale, both of Virginia Beach, VA; his daughter, Robin Cale (Cary) Whitt of Little Elm, TX; fourteen grandchildren; Cory Cale, Gina Cale Harris (Jake), Kristan Cale, Kara Cale, Sophie Cale, Dakota Cale, all of Virginia Beach, VA, Skyler Whitt, Devyn Whitt, Whitney Whitt, all of Little Elm, TX, Danielle Vincent (Rob), Ashlee Funaro, Alyssa Funaro, Mark White, and George White, all of Virginia Beach, VA; three great-grandchildren; Christian Cale, Andi Harris, and Weston Cale; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and nurses for all the care and dedication they gave Robert and his family throughout his sickness.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 12:00 noon at the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, Aulander, NC, with the Rev. Tommy Tripp officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 11:00 am at the church and other times at the home. The burial will follow at Job Cemetery, Aulander, NC.
