WINTON, NC ‑ Elaine Doughtie Coburn, age 67, died on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the  Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Coburn was born in Bertie County  on July 6, 1948, a daughter of the late W. Howard and Genevieve B. Doughtie.  She was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and later attended UNC-G.  Elaine was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie.

With 46 years alongside the love of her life, she enjoyed several decades of accomplished success in the furniture business before working full time with Coburn Forest Products.

Her most treasured possessions were God, family and friends.  In recent years, many fond memories were created with her family and friends through get‑togethers, traveling and small intimate moments.  She touched so many lives in so many ways; whether you knew her for a day or a decade, she always left you full of joy.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Ronald E. Coburn; her son, Mark E. Coburn and wife, Elise; five grandchildren, Breanna and Avery Coburn, Anna, Vince and Audrey Selph of Edenton, NC; two sisters, Betty D. Jones of Aulander, NC, and Janet Scott and husband, Hal of Winton, NC.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Garrett‑Sykes Funeral Service ‑ Ahoskie Chapel on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 6:30 pm, with the Rev. Steven Moore officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC, 27615 or any charitable organization of your choice.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the thoughtful comments about my mamma! It really doesn’t seem like two years today. We miss her just as much now if not more. It is wonderful that so many still think of her! Thank you so much!

Just learned of Elaine’s passing, and I am so sorry for all of the family’s losses. I remember Elaine first from high school, and was able to reconnect later when she was at the furniture store. She always had a smile and a kind word, and she will be missed.

Elaine (as all who have known her) since elementary school.. knew then..what a dear,
personable, sweet, person she has always been!! Her kindness has touched so many hearts!!! I’m truly sorry to the family, for her having to leave ..but am assured she is an Angel in Heaven…with no pain, smiling (as always) and singing!! All were blest to call you friend …your goodness will live on!!

I was so sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. I never met her in person but doing business and talking to her on the phone, a friendship developed. Such a sweet lady. My deepest sympathy to her family – both at home and at work.

My sincerest condolences to your family Mark. Although I never met your mother, I was so impressed by the way she embraced my dear friend Elise and her children, claiming them all immediately as her own. I could see the love that she had for her family in all the photographs and posts on social media; she was devoted to the happiness and well being of you all. My heartfelt prayers for your Father, you Elise and the kids and all who loved her.
