Elaine Edwards Wheeler

Elaine Edwards Wheeler, 79, of Emporia, passed away, Wednesday, August 23, 2023. She was the daughter of the late James and Juanita Edwards and she was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert B. Wheeler, Jr. and a sister, Phyllis Clary.

Elaine grew up in Adams Grove Baptist Church where she held numerous positions. One of her proudest accomplishments was becoming the first woman to be Deacon Chairperson and Chair of WOM. Her love for her church grew stronger over the years. Elaine will be dearly missed by her church family. She had retired from Resinal Corporation.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert B. Wheeler, Sr.; brothers, Clifton Edwards (Ginger) of Como, NC and Glenn Edwards (Martha) of Boykins, VA; niece, Melundy Wright (Jeff) of Gaston, NC and nephew, Robert Edwards of Como, NC.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 25 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax RD., Jarratt, Virginia where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 26. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Adams Grove Baptist Church, attn: Carol Grizzard, 24463 Adams Grove Rd, Emporia, VA 23847.

Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd., Jarratt, VA 23867 is handling arrangements for the Wheeler family and Garrett~Sykes Funeral Service, Murfreesboro, NC is assisting with the Graveside Service at Riverside Cemetery.
