Elizabeth Ann Watson Basnight
AHOSKIE, NC- Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Watson Basnight, 82, passed away on June 13, 2011 at Westminister Canterbury, Virginia Beach, VA. She was born in Hertford County on September 9, 1928 to the late Sidney and ‘Lizzie’ Watson. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Leigh Basnight and her brother Sidney Watson, Jr.
Elizabeth Ann is survived by her four sons; David W. Basnight of Raleigh, NC, Michael H. Basnight and wife Gina of Ahoskie, NC, Ralph Leigh Basnight, Jr. and wife Barbara of Cofield, NC, Walter Howard Basnight, II and wife Carol of Morehead City, NC. She had four grandchildren; Elizabeth Basnight of Chapel Hill, NC, Walt Basnight of Morehead City, NC, Cameron and David Basnight of Ahoskie, NC. A niece, Mary Silver and husband Arthur of New Bern, NC and nephew Pete Watson of Marietta, GA.
Elizabeth Ann graduated from Greensboro College where she then taught school in Hertford County. She was a faithful member of the Ahoskie United Methodist Church where she was active in the Methodist Women and served on many church and civic committees. She loved her time in the choir and enjoyed playing the organ and piano for her family.
Elizabeth Ann loved to travel and enjoyed her many friendships that she created throughout her life’s journey. She enjoyed writing and communicating through letters and stories about her many experiences with her family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the home of Michael and Gina Basnight, 400 Lakeview Dr, Ahoskie, NC on Tuesday, June 14th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Ahoskie United Methodist Church, Ahoskie, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Ahoskie United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 665, Ahoskie, NC 27910. Condolences can also be sent to Garrett-Jones Funeral Home at www.garrettjonesfh.com.

I was so sorry to hear of Mrs Basnight’s passing. She was a kind lady and I liked her very much. I’m glad she was able to travel and enjoy her grandchildren during her lifetime.
Mother and I send our thoughts and prayers to you all in this time of sadness. When I remember my early years in Ahoskie your mother’s sweet smile and great laugh is one of the memories that always comes to mind. She was truly a wonderful lady.
Michael, David, Howard and Lee. My mom, Grace Sumner and Helen Anderson went to the funeral, but they were unable to get to speak to you. Mom asked me to tell you how much she loved Your Mom and will miss her so much. Mom will keep you in her prayers and thoughts.

Dear Basnight Family, I was so sorry to see the passing of your mom. I have great memories of coming to your home as a young boy while living in Ahoskie. Your mom was always so gracious to me. I will never forget the good times Ms. Basnight and I had talking, laughing and joking about everything in life. She was undoubtly one of the sweetest people I have ever had the privilege to meet. She will certainly be missed. I will love her forever.
