COFIELD – Elton Alexander Callis, Sr., age 85, of the 1100 block of NC 45 South, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

Mr. Callis was born in Hertford County, a son of the late Samuel Alexander and Cora Meadows Callis. He was a longtime member of Harrellsville Baptist Church and a retired farmer. Elton was a graduate of Harrellsville High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the widower of Mary Pierce Callis.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughters, Mary Frances Farmer and husband, Donald of Harrellsville, NC, Barbara C. Jones and husband, Roger of Colerain, NC, and Linda C. Lewis and husband, Carl of Alaska; his son, Elton Alexander Callis, Jr. of Kinston, NC; two brothers, Cecil Callis of Harrellsville, NC, and Sam Callis of Driver, VA; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A celebration of life graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Harrellsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, and other times at the home.

He was the best Papa anyone could ask for. I know he is so happy now that he is back with the best little woman in the world. I will smile everytime I think of him.
