AHOSKIE, NC – Eric Von Dunbar, age 48, of Matheson Woods, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, during a tragic accident.

Eric was born on September 12, 1974, in Iowa City, IA. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy, and as a Plankowner on the USS Ronald Reagan, he was a member of the reactor operations team. After his discharge, Eric worked as an electrical engineer at Nucor-Hertford for seventeen years, where he developed many friendships. He loved his family dearly, especially his sons. They went on many excursions together, enjoying them greatly. Eric was always working on or tinkering with mechanical equipment. He enjoyed fishing, boating, skiing, cruising, and most any adventure he went on. Eric was loved by his family, co-workers and friends and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Eric is survived by his three sons, Paul Jordan Gregowicz, Noah Eric Dunbar, and Jacob Roy Dunbar, all of San Diego, CA; his parents, Neil Scott Ferguson and Debbie Roberts Ferguson of Acworth, GA.; two sisters, Amanda Cowell of Sarasota, FL, and Whitney Maher and husband Kevin of Woodstock, GA; brother, Scott Warren Ferguson and wife Shani of Acworth, GA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, February 25, 2023, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 2:00 pm with his brother-in-law, Kevin Maher, officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Iowa City.

You are missed already! I always enjoyed your visits when you came to see Dianna. I know you have left a hole in her heart. I am missing your visits already! God got a great one! Dad always thought so much of you! You have fun with him and I will see you both when I get there! I will continue to pray for your family! I know they are missing you!!!

We are praying for the family of Eric Dunbar. Eric was our neighbor and he would often be in his yard working on his cars or other equipment. He was a kind neighbor and he will truly be missed. May God comfort each of you.
