Eudora Helms Leggett Andrews, 95, died on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Bryan Health and Rehabilitation in Scotland Neck.

Eudora was born on May 28, 1922 in Tuscaloosa, AL to the late Ira L. Helms, Sr. and Pearl Lavender Helms.  She graduated from Scotland Neck High School and attended Chowan College and East Carolina College.  Eudora was employed as a bookkeeper by Harrison Oil Company and Alexander and Holloman Insurance Company and retired from the NC Department of Corrections in 1979.  Her first husband, Arthur K. Leggett, Sr., preceded her in 1977 and on November 24, 1979 she married George B. Andrews, Jr.  They moved to Charleston, SC for seven years, before returning to Scotland Neck in 1986.  Eudora was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck and active in several civic organizations, including the DAR and American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed doing programs for these organizations until her health failed.

In addition to her parents and first husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ira L. Helms, Jr. and wife Nancy Ford Helms, Thomas C. Helms, Joseph Lee Helms, and Virgil R. Helms; and her sister, Florence Helms.

She is survived by her husband, George B. Andrews, Jr.; her son, Arthur K. “Art” Leggett, Jr. and wife Kathy of Washington; her daughters, Jeanne Leggett Stevenson and husband Fred of Blairstown, NJ and Nancy Leggett Stevenson and husband Richard of Scotland Neck; her sister, Ann Helms Lemoine of Las Vegas, NV; her sisters-in-law, Martha Ann Helms of Lynchburg, VA, Debra Helms of Alexandria, VA, and Dorothy Helms of Mount Airy, MD; six grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Baptist Cemetery in Scotland Neck.  The Reverend Doctor James Drake will be presiding.

The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
