Evelyn Catherine Hesse Keehn, a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023, at the age of 96. She was born on September 23, 1926, in New York City, New York, to parents, Herman Hesse and Matilda Durels Hesse.

Evelyn’s passion for education shone through her extensive career as a teacher and librarian. She nurtured young minds and fostered a love for reading with all her students. Beyond her professional life, Evelyn was an ardent fan of the Boston Red Socks, finding joy in their triumphs. She also found solace and fulfillment in knitting and was known for her skillful creations.

A woman of immense faith, Evelyn was a devoted member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Brevard, NC. Her commitment to her church community was unwavering, and she cherished the spiritual connections she formed there.

Among her many interests, Evelyn had a profound love for literature. She possessed a voracious appetite for books, immersing herself in countless stories over the years. However, her greatest source of love and happiness was her family. Evelyn’s devotion to her loved ones extended to her great grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Robert Keehn, daughter Joy Keehn, father Herman Hesse, mother Matilda Durels Hesse, and brother Walter Hesse. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and be cherished by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her four sons: Gordon Keehn (Sue) of Raleigh, NC, Alan Keehn of Murfreesboro, NC, Carl Keehn of Raleigh, and Mark Keehn (Rachel) of League City, TX. Additionally, she is survived by her three granddaughters: Kimberley Keehn (Diego), Stacey Kenyon (Adam), and Mallory Keehn; five grandsons: Scott Keehn (Johanna), Joseph Keehn, Jacob Keehn, Lance Keehn, and Chad Keehn (Carrie); and eight great-grandchildren: Obsidian, Austin, Madison, Julianna, Ryan, Landon, Azrael and Zurri along with a niece, Elizabeth Osborne (Paul) of Seattle, WA, and two nephews: Jim Keehn of Beaverton, OR, and Dan Keehn (Judy) of Rochester, NY.
