Evelyn Louise Paramore, 106, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023. She was born to Claude Allen Paramore and Carrie Leggett Paramore in Scotland Neck.
Evelyn was a 1935 graduate of Scotland Neck Schools and attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church from the time she was a small child. After graduating from high school, Evelyn worked at the Colonial Electric Company and later at Rose’s 5 & 10 in Scotland Neck. In 1936, she attended Holmes College of the Bible in Greenville, SC. She later moved to Suffolk, VA to work for the Planters Nut & Chocolate Company.
Evelyn attended the King’s Daughter School of Nursing in Portsmouth, Virginia where she received her nursing degree in 1945. She attended and graduated from Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC, receiving her degree in Pediatric Nursing in 1946. The same year, Evelyn became Supervisor of the pediatric ward at Leigh Memorial Hospital in Norfolk, VA. In 1950, she became Superintendent of Nurses at Mary Elizabeth Hospital in Raleigh, NC and also taught nursing during her time there. Later she would go on to work for Dr. J.B. Ruffin in Ahoskie, NC. When Evelyn’s father passed away, she returned home to Scotland Neck and began private duty nursing.
Evelyn Paramore was a deeply religious woman and gave much of her time to further God’s work. The church was a big part of her life and at age 93, she was named the oldest active church member. Through the years, Evelyn served as PHYS Leader, Women’s Ministries President, Church Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and a very important role of prayer warrior. Her natural interest in history and genealogy led her to become a church historian. She worked diligently to preserve the church through a written history, as well as a treasured collection of photographs, newspaper clippings, and other artifacts. She loved her family, her church, and always had a kind word for all she met.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Allen Paramore Sr. and Carrie Leggett Paramore; sister, Jeanette Paramore Hardee; brothers, Rudolph Paramore, Claude Allen Paramore Jr, Hugh Leggett Paramore; niece, Polly Paramore Fisher; nephews, Lewis Allen Paramore, Claude Allen Paramore III; and great-nephew, Brian Fisher.

Just found out about her passing. My mom went to nursing school with Evelyn and after my mom died l wrote her until she was put in a home and sent her cards once there but never heard anything more from her..l am sure my Mom was there to welcome her in heaven.
I met “cousin Evelyn” 10 years ago after learning of her through our family in Greenville/Black Jack. Her grandparents were my great grandmother’s aunt and uncle. She was such a gift to us all and just cherished her memories of our family and her trips as a child to Black Jack. In 2019, she was able to attend the Dixon reunion where she shared memories and sentiments of our aunts and uncles/mom and dads/ grandparents and great grandparents who have all passed on…such a gift to all who were there!! 💞. Will always treasure my time with her and so thankful to God for bringing us together.
With prayers and blessings to her family whom she loved dearly and shared fondly of them whenever we met.
Shirley Manning would like to offer her condolences too. She was a remarkable lady and I loved her so much. Evelyn was my Dad’s, Jimmy Leggett, cousin. She will be missed very much.
So sad to hear this, she was a very energetic person, so much fun to be around, Evelyn and her sister help me so much on my Genealogy journey, being Kin to each other made it so much easier. God Bless the Family.
Jackie, I’m so sorry to hear of your Great Aunt’s passing. What a beautiful soul she was. Heaven is a brighter place today.
