Evelyn Turley Jones died May 6, 2009, at the age of 96. She was a native of Clayton, NC, and graduated from high school there. She also graduated from East Carolina University and taught in the public school system of North Carolina for forty three years. The schools in which she taught were Willow Springs, Farm Life School, Seaboard, Henderson, Clayton, Roanoke Rapids and Ahoskie. She was a very dedicated, caring teacher and was a member of local and state education organizations.
She was an active member of the Menola Baptist Church and served in many capacities including choir member, pianist, Sunday school teacher, Woman’s Missionary Union worker, and on various committees.
She was predeceased by her parents Will A. and Maggie Turley Jones; a brother, William Elmer Jones and a sister, Margaret Lee Brown with whom she made her home in Menola during her years of retirement.
She is survived by several caring nieces and a nephew, cousins and many friends.
