Fannie Marie Leary, 81, died February 24, 2011 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie on Sunday, February 27, at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Daniel Glaze officiating. Burial will follow in the Ahoskie Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents James Stanley Leary and Edna Sewell Leary, her brothers James Stanley Leary, Jr. and Stephen Sewell Leary, and a sister Edna Earle Leary Newsome.

A lifelong resident of Ahoskie, Fannie was born March 20, 1929, graduated from Ahoskie High School, attended Chowan College and received her Nurse‚??s Assistant Certification from Roanoke- Chowan Community College. As a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, she participated in various church organizations and kept the nursery for 25 years. She worked at Pizza Inn and delivered papers for The News-Herald, receiving recognition as Carrier of the Month and Carrier of the Year.

Fannie is survived by brothers Dr. Thomas E. Leary and wife Joyce, William E. Leary, Sr. and wife Bess of Ahoskie, N.C., and Rev. David O. Leary and wife Bonita of Morganton, N.C. and a sister- in- law Lamera Leary of Chesapeake, VA; six nieces, seven nephews, eleven great-nieces and nine great-nephews.

I want to send my thoughts and prayers to Fannie Marie’s family. I have fond memories of my childhood spent with her. I also remember the times I saw her at Guardian Care. May she rest peacefully with God.
