Faye Brown Fleming, age 79, died peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at her home, after a long struggle with Scleroderma and Pulmonary hypertension. Faye was born May 11, 1934, in Halifax County, North Carolina, the daughter of Enfield businessman, Joe Brown and his wife, Nina.

Faye thoroughly enjoyed taking care of others. She attended Enfield High School and graduated from St. Mary’s College in Raleigh. She received her certification and began her career as a registered nurse at Rex Hospital. She returned to Enfield to work in geriatric care at her father’s Convalescent Care Center until her retirement.

In 1960, Faye married the love of her life, Air Force Lt. Colonel James H. Fleming, Sr. and they made their home on the Fleming family farm in Enfield. Mr. Fleming and his brother, Darrell ran the farm together for forty years. Faye worked as a nurse and raised their three children.

Faye was a member of the Enfield Baptist Church. In her spare time she enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking, and baking, tending to her house and yard. Before becoming sick, she was an active volunteer at her church.

Faye is survived by her husband, Jimmy Fleming of the home, her children: son, Hunter Fleming and his wife, Jessica of Enfield, NC, daughter, Eva Fleming Swanner of Asheville, NC, and son, Geoffery Fleming of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; three grandchildren: Hannah, Claire, and Justin; her sister, India Brown King and her husband, Dwight; her brother-in-law, Darrell Fleming and his wife, Edna; five nieces and four nephews; and a number of other relatives and close friends.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Bonnie Babson for her service of taking such good care of Mrs. Fleming and to Darrell and Edna Fleming for their many meals and special care of Faye.

The family will receive friends and family at the Enfield Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 3PM on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Following the visitation, there will be a Graveside Service at 4PM at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Home Health and Hospice of Halifax, 220 Smith Church Road, Building C, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870 or Enfield Baptist Church, 200 West Burnette Ave, Enfield, NC 27823.
