Felton Cherry Godwin

February 17, 1928 – December 31, 2023

Felton Cherry Godwin, 95 of Ahoskie, N.C. went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Eure Godwin, his parents, Claxton Albert and Ella Mae Godwin, and his sister, Etta Louise Godwin Vines.

Felton was drafted into the Army just three days after their first child was born and served as a Specialist in the 3rd Class Signal Core from 1954-1956.  He lived his life as a dedicated farmer, who also loved to hunt and fish.  He was a deeply faithful Christian man and a lifelong member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer, and any area he was needed.  Felton served on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors for thirty years and was a member of the Cars Are Fun Club, an antique car club where he and his wife traveled all over the country in his 1958 Ford.

Felton’s integrity, honesty, and steadfast loyalty were the bedrock of his family that he loved so much.  He was always into the journey, and those who traveled with him were truly blessed.  From his example, his children and grandchildren learned love and patience.

Felton is survived by his children, daughter Cherry Godwin Howell (Phillip-deceased), son Howard Godwin (Sue), daughter Bonnie Godwin Hansen (Scott); grandchildren Nick Howell, Megan Howell, Ryan Godwin (Jackie), Kendra Godwin Smith (Matthew), Christopher Godwin (Julie), Seth Hansen, Liza Hansen; great-grandchildren Leilani Godwin, Noah Godwin, Morgan Smith, Rebecca Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special acknowledgement of gratitude and love to Dr. Colin Jones for not only being Felton’s doctor, but a true friend and neighbor. Also, to Alice Sharp who was not only an excellent caregiver, but became a special family friend and was beneficial in securing additional caregivers Vanessa Council, Alison Arnette, and Amanda Arnette. They all provided excellent compassionate care.

The family will be receiving friends at his home on 407 U.S. Highway 158 West, Ahoskie.  A Service of Remembrance celebrating the life of Felton will be held in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Gardens.

Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 112 East Mt. Tabor Church Road, Ahoskie, NC 27910 or online by clicking here

Mr. Felton was The Best Neighbor all my life. He was fun to talk to and shared a great knowledge of a lot of things. He loved his family and walked everyday with our Lord Jesus Christ. He was a true friend and a strong example for us all to live by. God Bless his family.
