CONWAY, NC – Frances Coggins Hamilton, age 85, passed away on January 20, 2022 at 7:10 am at WakeMed in Raleigh.
A native of Conway NC, Mrs. Hamilton was born on January 26, 1936 to Johnnie E. “CAP” Coggins and Beulah W. Coggins of Conway NC. She graduated from Conway High School and Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC after which she met the love of her life, Sterling Hamilton, and was married on August 12, 1956.
Frances was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Upon retirement , she enjoyed traveling with Sterling, visiting family and spending time with her grand and great grand children, doing her secretarial work and singing in the choir at Conway United Methodist Church, and visiting and helping shut in members of the community. Frances loved watching ACC basketball and football, especially the NC State Wolfpack. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sterling Hamilton. Frances is survived by her loving daughter, Julia Hamilton Salas and husband, Rudy; grandson, Rudy Salas III and wife, Emma, granddaughter Marialena Salas, five great grandsons, Elijah, Finn, identical twins Jasper and Isaac and Ezekiel “Zeke”; sister, Mary Piland and husband, A.C.; sister in law, Mittie Hamilton; nephews, Andy Piland, Ed Piland and wife, Bobbi, Lee Piland, Russ Piland and wife, Jamie, Steve Hamilton and wife, Pat; nieces, Alice Ann Cohoon and husband, Mike, Angela Matthews and husband, Matt, Debbie Copeland, Claire Jo Miner and husband, Joe, and Fran Hamilton; along with great nieces, great nephews, friends and neighbors that were like family to her and her family.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Conway United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Hill officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, prior to the service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Conway Cemetery.

Julia’s St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Family is holding all of you in our prayers. We loved to see Frances when she came to visit! What a beautiful lady. Hoping that all will feel the peace of God that passes all understanding.

Frances and Mr Hamilton were special folks in my life. I saw the sadness in her heart when she lost him. I know she is smiling in Heaven because they are back together where she longed to be. Fly high Frances with God’s Angels and keep Mr Hamilton straight!
