AULANDER, NC-Haywood Earl Shores, age 83, died on August 4, 2016 at the Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Born on November 14, 1932 to the late Garland Elwood and Katie Lassiter Shores, he was a retired carpenter and lifelong resident of the Aulander area, and member of the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church in Aulander, NC.
Mr. Haywood Shores had eight brothers and sisters; the late Peggy Shores, Bobby Shores, Elwood Shores, Irvin Shores, Melvin Shores, and Annette Shores Blowe of Aulander. He is survived by his brother, Jesse Shores, and his sister, Becky Shores Blowe and her husband Harvey of Aulander, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Also preceding Haywood in death is his beloved wife, Rose Whitley Shores, of Harrellsville, NC.
Haywood is survived by one beloved son, Haywood Earl Shores, II “Woody”, and his wife Elizabeth Lyles Shores, and two precious grandchildren, Sophia Elizabeth and Brandon Whitley Shores of Aulander.
Mr. Shores was loved by many, and enjoyed sharing fishing stories and other fond memories with the men at the local country store.
The Shores family would like to thank Vidant Medical Center Palliative Care, Vidant Hospice, Davita Dialysis, and Eastern Nephrology for the wonderful care and compassion shown during Mr. Shores’ illness.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 6, 2016, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and other times at the home of his son, Woody.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at 3:00 pm at the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, Aulander, NC, with Rev. Taylor Latham, officiating. Burial will follow at Aulander Cemetery.
