Henry Earl Lassiter, age 73, of Aulander, NC passed away peacefully at his home on January 21, 2016, with his family by his side.

Henry was born January 14, 1943, in Hertford County to the late Herman Ford and Lula Dunning Lassiter. He graduated from Aulander High School as Valedictorian of his class. He was a lifelong learner who broadened his knowledge by the intensive reading of non-fiction materials.  He was observed by one of his daughter’s college friends to be able to join a conversation about practically any subject.  Henry worked as a bookkeeper for Mr. Sam Farmer and L. S. Jernigan & Son.  He served the Millennium Community as a former fireman and worked for 43 years with the Millennium Water Association as secretary. Henry took his spiritual life seriously.  He was a member of Millennium P. H. Church and served in many capacities as a younger man. Mr. Lassiter was a collector of knowledge, wisdom, coins, stamps, old glass, and was an expert in Native American studies.  He shared his expertise with many of his wife’s classes over her teaching career.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Henry is survived by his loving wife Brenda, his daughter, Erin Lassiter Jones and her husband Kevin of Ahoskie; his brother, George Wesley Lassiter and his wife Eman of Tacoma, WA; his nephew, Stephen Douglas Lassiter and his wife Karen of Lynnwood, WA, a sister-in-law, Linda Byrd of Aulander; two brothers-in-law, Al Byrd of Aulander, and Luther Byrd of Kinston, an aunt, Marion Dilday and her husband Henry of Ahoskie, an uncle, George Dunning, Jr. of FL, along with his “Adopted Son”, Bobby Cooke and his wife Lynn of Ahoskie.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 24, 2016, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 2:00 pm at the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, Aulander, NC, with the Rev. Taylor Latham officiating. Burial will follow at Job Cemetery.

Brenda, Erin and family, I just found out on the internet of News Herald that Henry Earl just passed. My wife and I am very sorry for your loss. Henry Earl and I were buddies when we were teenagers and went on trips together to many places. Also he went with my parents, sister and me to mountains and many places. Henry learned sign language from me and we had fun during our teenager years. We will remember you in our prayers.

I only met Mr. Lassiter a couple of times but our daughters were such close friends, I felt I knew him well. I know his suffering is over and he is enjoying a happy day in Heaven.
