Henry Grayson Spruill, age 90, of Carroll St. died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 in Ahoskie of a massive heart attack.
Henry Spruill was a native of Bertie County and a member and deacon of Connaritsa Baptist Church. He served as Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He was a former member and past president of the Aulander Ruritan Club, member of the Aulander Town Council, and a past District Director of the National Association of Postmasters for the First District of NC. Mr. Spruill was Postmaster of Aulander for 37 years.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Ruth Spivey Spruill, of Aulander; daughters, Anne S. Shearin and her husband, Norm, of Kitty Hawk and Raleigh; Donna S. Adams and her husband Wesley, of Greenville, NC; son, Joseph W. Spruill and his wife, Lloyd, of Raleigh; eight grandchildren: Faith Shearin, Dana Shearin, Wilson Henry Shearin, Paul Spruill, Yates Spruill, Spencer Adams, Hannah Adams, Grace Schuler; and nine great grandchildren: Mavis Murdock, Ben Shearin, Grayson Spruill, Miller Spruill, Henry Adams, Sadie Adams, Maisy Adams, Sophie Schuler, and Madelyn Schuler.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, Dec. 26, at Connaritsa Baptist Church on NC 305 South of Aulander. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 PM in the church sanctuary with the service to follow at 2:00. Burial will take place at Aulander Cemetery immediately following the service.
