Herman Ashley Braddy, 95, of Burgaw, NC passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

Ashley was born on August 10, 1928 to Herman and Minnie Chrisenberry Braddy in Emporia, VA. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, September 1952 to September 1954, before he was honorably discharged and he received a purple heart. Ashley married the love of his life, Mamie Pilgreen on July 30, 1955. They enjoyed 68 years together. Ashley was a farming enthusiast for 15 years; then he worked at Fulflex of NC until he retired in 1990 at the age of 62. After his retirement from Fulflex, he continued to farm for 20 more years. He loved God, his church and most definitely spending time with his family. Ashley was an avid hunter, killing his last deer at the age of 90; as well as fisherman, spending many days on the Roanoke River. He also enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, grilling, and watching the western channel, especially “the Duke”. The memories of Ashley will be cherished for many years to come by those that knew and loved him the most.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, Pattie Braddy Sorie, his brothers, Wilson, Alton and Bobby Braddy, a daughter, Teresa Braddy Smith, and a great-grandson, Tiberius Crowley.

Ashley is survived by his wife, Mamie of the home, two daughters, Cindy Keel and her husband Mitch of Burgaw and Vickie Miller and her husband Kevin of Conway, SC; a son-in-law, Reggie Smith; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild; and a family of close, loving friends especially Donnie and Linda Harrell.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Military Honors on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 1PM at Oak City Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.

The Braddy family would like to say a special thank you to the hospice care team; your care and support has meant the world to us.
